Trump Requests DOJ Investigation into Epstein's Ties with Prominent Figures
President Donald Trump has directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's connections to high-profile individuals, including former President Bill Clinton and JPMorgan Chase.
President Donald Trump announced on Friday his intention to direct Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's alleged connections to prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton, ex-Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, and financial institution JPMorgan Chase. This decision follows the recent release of 20,000 Epstein-related documents by the House Oversight Committee, which have reignited scrutiny over Trump's past association with Epstein.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Democrats of attempting to divert attention from their own issues by focusing on his past ties with Epstein. He stated, "Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat's problem, not the Republican's problem! They all know about him, don't waste your time with Trump. I have a Country to run!"
The Justice Department has not yet responded to requests for comment. Representatives for Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman have also not provided immediate responses. A spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase acknowledged the bank's past association with Epstein, stating, "We regret any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous ... ."
This move by President Trump comes amid ongoing political friction over the release of Epstein-related materials. The House is expected to vote on a measure to compel the Justice Department to release all Epstein-related documents. Trump's backing is considered crucial if the measure passes both chambers. Critics argue that the president's call for an investigation is an attempt to shift focus away from his own connections to Epstein. Legal experts caution that directing the Justice Department to investigate specific individuals could be seen as a misuse of presidential authority.
