Four Dead, Eleven Injured in Ybor City Bar Crash Following Police Pursuit
A high-speed police chase in Tampa's Ybor City district resulted in a car crashing into a bar, leaving four dead and eleven injured.
Early Saturday morning, a high-speed police pursuit in Tampa's Ybor City district ended tragically when a vehicle crashed into a bar, resulting in four fatalities and eleven injuries. The incident began around 12:40 a.m. when Tampa Police observed a silver sedan driving recklessly on Interstate 275, suspected of street racing earlier on Hillsborough Avenue. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson from Dade City, exited the interstate and continued at high speed through downtown Tampa. Florida Highway Patrol attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the vehicle near Palm Avenue and Nebraska Avenue, but it was unsuccessful. As the pursuit approached the densely populated 7th Avenue in Ybor City, officers disengaged due to safety concerns. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle lost control and crashed into Bradley's on 7th, a bar located at 1510 E. 7th Avenue, striking patrons on the outdoor patio. Three individuals died at the scene, and a fourth succumbed to injuries at a local hospital. Among the injured, one person remains in critical condition, while eight others are listed as stable. Two individuals with minor injuries declined treatment. All victims were adults over the age of 20. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed condolences, stating, "What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy; our hearts are with the loved ones of the victims and all those who were impacted." Sampson was arrested at the scene and is facing four counts of vehicular homicide, with additional felony charges anticipated. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation.
