Haji Wright's Brace Leads USMNT to 2-1 Victory Over Australia Amid Pulisic Injury
Haji Wright scored twice as the U.S. Men's National Team overcame an early deficit to defeat Australia 2-1, despite the early exit of Christian Pulisic due to injury.
In an international friendly at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) secured a 2-1 victory over Australia. The match saw forward Haji Wright score twice, leading the team to a comeback win after conceding an early goal.
Australia opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Jordan Bos capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the Socceroos ahead. Shortly after, USMNT's key attacker Christian Pulisic was forced to leave the field in the 31st minute due to a hamstring injury. The severity of Pulisic's injury is yet to be determined, and he is set to return to AC Milan for further evaluation.
Despite Pulisic's departure, the USMNT responded effectively. In the 33rd minute, Wright netted the equalizer, assisted by Cristian Roldan. Wright continued his impressive performance by scoring the decisive goal in the 51st minute, again with an assist from Roldan. This match marked the first time under coach Mauricio Pochettino that the USMNT has come from behind to secure a win.
Reflecting on his performance, Wright emphasized the importance of maintaining his form to secure a spot on the World Cup roster. Coach Pochettino praised Wright's contribution, noting that such performances bring players closer to inclusion in the team.
The USMNT will continue their World Cup preparations with upcoming matches against Paraguay on November 15 in Chester, Pennsylvania, and Uruguay on November 18 in Tampa, Florida.
