Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Result in Civilian Casualties
Israeli airstrikes on Msayleh, southern Lebanon, killed one and injured seven, targeting alleged Hezbollah infrastructure.
Israeli airstrikes targeted the village of Msayleh in southern Lebanon early Saturday, resulting in one death and seven injuries, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. The strikes destroyed a facility selling heavy machinery and damaged a passing vegetable delivery vehicle, temporarily disrupting a major highway connecting Beirut with southern regions. The deceased was identified as a Syrian citizen, while the injured included both Syrian and Lebanese nationals. The Israeli military stated the strikes aimed at equipment intended for reconstruction by Hezbollah, following a 14-month war between Israel and the militant group that ended in November 2024 through a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Since then, near-daily Israeli strikes have reportedly killed dozens as Hezbollah seeks to rebuild after suffering significant wartime losses. UN human rights chief Volker Türk recently urged for efforts toward a permanent ceasefire, reporting 103 Lebanese civilian deaths post-ceasefire. The previous war resulted in over 4,000 Lebanese deaths and estimated $11 billion in damages, while Israel suffered 127 fatalities. The conflict began when Hezbollah launched rocket attacks following Hamas-led violence in Israel on October 8, 2023.
