Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Kill One, Injure Seven
Israeli airstrikes on Msayleh, Lebanon, result in one death and seven injuries, targeting alleged Hezbollah reconstruction equipment.
Israeli airstrikes targeted the village of Msayleh in southern Lebanon early Saturday, resulting in one death and seven injuries, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. The strikes destroyed a facility selling heavy machinery and damaged a passing vegetable delivery vehicle, temporarily disrupting a major highway connecting Beirut with southern regions. The Health Ministry identified the deceased as a Syrian citizen, with the injured comprising both Syrian and Lebanese nationals. The Israeli military stated the operation aimed at equipment intended for reconstruction by Hezbollah, following a 14-month conflict that concluded in November 2024 with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Since then, near-daily Israeli strikes have reportedly killed dozens as Hezbollah seeks to rebuild after significant wartime losses. UN human rights chief Volker Türk recently urged efforts toward a permanent ceasefire, reporting 103 Lebanese civilian deaths post-ceasefire. The previous war resulted in over 4,000 Lebanese deaths and an estimated $11 billion in damages, while Israel suffered 127 fatalities. The conflict began when Hezbollah launched rocket attacks following Hamas-led violence in Israel on October 8, 2023.
