Knicks guard Tyler Kolek calls Taylor Swift a "performative" fan during livestream
Knicks point guard Tyler Kolek suggested on a TikTok livestream that Taylor Swift's support for the team is largely performative, prompting a response from the organization.
New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek said on an NBA 2K TikTok livestream that Taylor Swift appears to be a "performative" fan of the team, noting that she was only seen courtside at the NBA Finals Game 4 in June and not at other games. Kolek added that he expected to receive criticism for his comments.
"I know she’s got a lot going on and can’t come all the time, but it does seem a little bit performative," Kolek said.
His teammate Deuce McBride agreed that some celebrity attendees seem more interested in being seen at games than in supporting the team, while also acknowledging that Swift’s fan base may not appreciate the assessment.
A Knicks spokesperson said the organization appreciates Swift’s long-standing support and her history of attending games at Madison Square Garden. The team did not comment further on Kolek’s remarks.
Swift’s appearance at the Finals sparked reactions from other public figures, including Hank Azaria and Charlamagne Tha God, who expressed displeasure with her presence at sporting events. Swift’s representative did not respond to requests for comment.
