Knicks guards label Taylor Swift a "performative" fan

Summary

New York Knicks point guards Tyler Kolek and Miles "Deuce" McBride said Taylor Swift appears to attend games mainly for publicity, calling her a "fake" fan during a livestream.

During a TikTok livestream on Nov. 5, New York Knicks point guards Tyler Kolek and Miles "Deuce" McBride discussed which celebrity they consider the least authentic Knicks supporter. Kolek suggested Taylor Swift, and McBride agreed, describing her attendance as "a little performative."

Kolek said, "They just want to be seen at the game, they're not necessarily fans. I don't know if I've seen her at any other games. I'm gonna get some hate from the Swifties. I guess she's got a lot going on, so she can't come all the time. But it's a little performative."

McBride added, "Swifties not gonna like that answer," and noted that other celebrities such as Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan attend games more consistently.

A Knicks spokesperson told Billboard that Swift has been a fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and that the organization appreciates her support.

Swift was seen at Game 4 of the NBA Finals in a Knicks T-shirt alongside actress Mariska Hargitay and musicians Este and Alana Haim, and previously attended a regular-season game with husband Travis Kelce. The comments from the players reflect a broader debate among some male sports fans about celebrity attendance at games.
