Sixers improve to 8-1 with win over Pistons
Philadelphia defeated Detroit 112-106, extending its road unbeaten streak and maintaining the league's best record at 8-1.
Philadelphia secured a 112-106 victory against Detroit on Wednesday, moving to 8-1 on the season and retaining the NBA's top record. The win came despite a late surge by the Pistons, with the Sixers holding on after a decisive defensive play in the final minute.
Jaylen Brown led the scoring, posting a game-high 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting, including a late three-pointer that tied the game before a crucial block on a Pistons three-pointer with 38 seconds remaining. The block helped the Sixers seal the game at the free-throw line.
Cade Cunningham contributed 26 points for Detroit, while Philadelphia's defense limited the Pistons' star Jalen Duren, who was out for the game, and kept the overall shooting efficiency low.
Philadelphia's defensive metrics have improved, ranking second in the league for defensive rating and ninth in defensive rebounding percentage. Center Joel Embiid recorded 15 rebounds, his first 15-board game since January 2024, and displayed increased mobility on the perimeter.
The Sixers remain undefeated on the road and continue to rely on defensive hustle and late-game execution as they work to improve an offense that currently ranks in the league's lower third.
