Packers' Christian Watson Returns to Game After Hospital Evaluation

Résumé

Christian Watson was taken to a hospital for precautionary tests after a chest injury but was cleared to rejoin the Packers in the third quarter, finishing with two more catches.

Green Bay wide receiver Christian Watson rejoined the Week 8 Thursday Night Football contest against the Carolina Panthers in the third quarter after being taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary tests following a chest injury in the first half. Initially listed as questionable, he was cleared and returned to the field with additional rib padding.

Watson arrived at Lambeau Field in an ambulance, spent a few minutes in the locker room, and then took the field. > "It was tough," he told Prime Video's Kaylee Hartung. "I never wanted to go. I was hoping they would let me off. I said I was feeling better once I kind of caught my breath. They said there was a couple of signs that made them have to take me over there. It is what it is. I was just praying that it was good enough to where I could come back out here. Thankfully it was, and I was able to get back out. I'm trying to be on the football field. That's first and foremost for me."

Watson reported spitting up blood at the time of the injury, prompting the medical staff's decision to transport him. Tests ruled out internal bleeding, allowing him to return. He monitored the game from his hospital room while awaiting results.

The injury occurred during a 53-yard reception that set up the Packers' second touchdown of the night, after a collision with Panthers cornerback Will Lee III, who also sustained a hamstring injury. Before leaving, Watson led all receivers with six catches for 100 yards, helping quarterback Jordan Love complete 17 of his first 20 passes.

On his first play back, Watson was targeted but did not catch the ball; he added two receptions in the fourth quarter, including a third-down conversion that helped the Packers control the clock late in the game. In his absence, Matthew Golden and Tucker Kraft saw increased roles, with Golden catching a touchdown and Kraft scoring the team's first touchdown of the night.
