Christian Watson Returns After Hospital Visit to Help Packers Defeat Panthers

Summary

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson overcame a rib injury and a brief hospital stay to finish with 113 receiving yards in a 27-19 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Christian Watson left the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers after sustaining a rib injury that required a CT scan at St. Vincent Hospital. He returned to Lambeau Field in the third quarter and finished with eight catches for 113 yards, contributing to the Packers’ 27-19 victory.

Watson said the experience felt like a scene from a wrestling show, noting the dramatic entrance from the ambulance. He described the injury as a blow to his elbow that knocked the wind out of him and caused him to spit up blood, prompting doctors to order imaging tests. After the scans showed no serious complications beyond cracked ribs, Watson expressed a desire to get back on the field as soon as possible.

"Before I even left the hospital, I wanted to get back out there. This means everything to me, to be out there on the football field," Watson said.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur called Watson’s performance “remarkable” and noted the impact of his missed time due to previous injuries. Safety Xavier McKinney praised Watson’s resilience and commitment to the team.

"It shows resiliency, it shows toughness, and it shows the love that he has for this team," McKinney said.

Watson’s return marked his sixth catch of the game before the injury and added two more after rejoining the offense, helping the Packers secure the win.
