Seahawks defeat Chiefs 20-3 as Smith-Njigda shines and defense dominates
Jaxon Smith-Njigda recorded 150 receiving yards and the Seattle defense limited Kansas City to 3 points in a 20-3 victory at Lumen Field.
Seattle secured a 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, improving to 4-3 on the season while ending a two-game losing streak. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigda led the offense with 150 receiving yards, the most in his first seven games of a season since the Super Bowl era, and added a touchdown. The Seahawks’ defense, coordinated by Mike Macdonald, held the Chiefs to 213 total yards and forced Kansas City to miss a field goal attempt by kicker Harrison Butker.
Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown, despite throwing his eighth interception in five games. He was effective early, completing 13 of his first 17 attempts for 178 yards and a score, before a late-half interception halted a potential scoring drive.
The Seahawks limited running back Kenneth Walker III to 36 yards on 14 carries, continuing a defensive streak of 36 games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. Kansas City’s offense struggled without key receivers and offensive tackles, with Patrick Mahomes pressured on eight of 15 dropbacks and limited to 37 passing yards before halftime.
"Our backs were against the wall. How we came out here as a brotherhood and fought ... the resiliency of our team is something special, and we're going to keep going," said Smith-Njigda.
Kansas City’s only notable play came when cornerback Nohl Williams intercepted a Darnold pass in the end zone and returned it 65 yards, but the Chiefs could not convert the turnover into points. The loss marks the Chiefs’ first defeat of the 2026 season as they prepare for a matchup with the Denver Broncos next week.
