Chiefs aim to stay unbeaten against top-ranked Seahawks in Week 7
Kansas City plans to rely on running back Kenneth Walker III, limit Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and win the turnover battle to maintain its 5-0 record.
Kansas City will travel to Seattle for a Sunday night game against the defending Super Bowl champions, who rank first in total defense and allow the fewest passing yards per game. The Chiefs, unbeaten at 5-0, intend to keep running back Kenneth Walker III central to the offense, hoping his league-leading rushing production can counter Seattle’s strong front line. Walker has averaged 133 rushing yards per game and 6.3 yards per carry, and the coaching staff expects his involvement to open up play-action opportunities for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Defensively, the focus will be on limiting Seahawks wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who leads the league in target share and averages about 120 receiving yards per game. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is expected to vary coverages and use bracket or zone schemes to keep Smith-Njigba under 100 yards and prevent long receptions. By containing the primary receiver, the Chiefs hope to force quarterback Sam Darnold to rely on other options.
Winning the turnover battle is also highlighted as a key factor. Darnold has thrown seven interceptions in six starts and has been sacked 14 times. Kansas City’s recent improvement in pass rush, including multiple sacks in the latest game, is expected to generate pressure without constant blitzing. The Chiefs aim to force at least two takeaways while limiting their own turnovers to one, a margin that could keep Seattle’s defense and home crowd from dictating the game’s flow.
