Sixteen Nations Urge Israel to Avoid Action Against Gaza-Bound Humanitarian Flotilla
Foreign ministers from 16 countries have called on Israel to refrain from any unlawful or violent acts against the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Foreign ministers from 16 countries, including Spain, Turkey, Mexico, and South Africa, have jointly urged Israel to avoid any unlawful or violent actions against the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet of approximately 40 boats aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. In a collective statement, the ministers emphasized the flotilla's mission to provide essential assistance to Palestinians and highlighted the importance of respecting international law.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, comprising activists from 44 nations, has faced challenges during its journey. Notably, two of its vessels were targeted by drone attacks while docked in Tunisia, causing fires but no injuries. Tunisian authorities have condemned these incidents as "orchestrated assaults" and are conducting investigations.
Despite these setbacks, the flotilla remains committed to its objective of breaking the Israeli blockade on Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid. Participants include prominent figures such as Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and former Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau.
The foreign ministers' statement underscores the necessity for all parties to adhere to international law and warns that any violations, including attacks on vessels in international waters or illegal detentions, will lead to accountability.
