Commanders lose star receiver Terry McLaurin to knee injury in loss to 49ers

Résumé

Terry McLaurin was carted off with a left-knee injury early in Washington's 23-17 defeat by San Francisco, and the team ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels saw his top receiving option, Terry McLaurin, leave the field early in the first quarter of the 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium. McLaurin, who had caught a 27-yard pass, appeared to suffer a significant left-knee injury when his knee buckled as he planted his foot near the sideline. He remained on the ground for several minutes before a cart arrived; he climbed aboard under his own power, his leg encased in a full air cast, and was escorted off by players from both teams.

"We don’t have any details yet, but we’re concerned it’s a significant injury," head coach Dan Quinn said after the game.

The Commanders confirmed McLaurin’s status as out with a knee injury. The wide receiver entered the game with 203 receiving yards and one touchdown in four contests this season, after missing the previous week’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts due to a hamstring strain.

Washington, now 1-4-1, remains at the bottom of the NFC East, while the 49ers improved to 6-0, the league’s best record. The injury adds to the Commanders’ challenges as they continue their early-season struggles.
