Meta's annual conference, Meta Connect 2025, is scheduled for September 17–18. The event is expected to showcase advancements in smart glasses, artificial intelligence, and Horizon OS.
Reports suggest Meta will introduce new smart glasses featuring a heads-up display (HUD) in the right eye, codenamed 'Hypernova.' These glasses are anticipated to display time, weather, notifications, and provide turn-by-turn navigation. Control is expected via a neural wristband utilizing electromyography (EMG) technology. The Information reports that the addition of the HUD brings Hypernova to around 70 grams, compared to the 50 grams of Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Additionally, Meta and EssilorLuxottica are reportedly collaborating on Oakley-branded smart glasses, targeting athletes and cyclists. These glasses are expected to feature a centered camera for improved first-person footage.
While a new Quest headset is not anticipated this year, third-party headsets running Meta's Horizon OS may be introduced. Asus is reportedly developing a gaming-focused headset under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, and Lenovo is working on headsets aimed at productivity, learning, and entertainment.
Meta is also expected to unveil a new developer toolkit for smart glasses, as indicated by scheduled sessions titled 'new developer toolkit from Meta to be announced September 18.' This suggests a focus on expanding the capabilities of Meta's wearable devices.
The main keynote will be streamed at 5 pm PT on September 17, with a developer keynote at 10 am PT on September 18.
