Week 5 NFL Review Highlights Commanders’ Tie, Jaguars’ Win and Packers’ Deep-Ball Surge
Washington’s overtime error led to a 27-27 tie with New York, Jacksonville edged Philadelphia 19-17 in London, and Green Bay’s Jordan Love posted a career-best deep-passing performance in a 31-7 victory over Chicago.
Washington tied New York 27-27 after quarterback Jayden Daniels failed to stop the clock in overtime, allowing the game to end without a field-goal attempt. Coach Dan Quinn expressed frustration, and Daniels acknowledged the need for better situational awareness. The result leaves the Commanders at 1-3-1 in the NFC East.
In London, Jacksonville defeated Philadelphia 19-17 thanks to a last-second 57-yard field goal by Cam Little. Despite multiple red-zone penalties and missed opportunities, the Jaguars secured the win, while Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni faced criticism for clock-management decisions that gave Jacksonville a final possession.
Green Bay’s Jordan Love threw for a career-high 258 yards on deep passes, leading the Packers to a 31-7 win over Chicago. Love completed six of eight attempts of at least 20 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown to Christian Watson, and the team improved its pass-protection metrics after adding veteran guards.
Other notable storylines included Sean Payton and DeMeco Ryans reclaiming play-calling duties for Denver and Houston, respectively; San Francisco’s defense forcing five sacks and four turnovers in a 32-29 win over Seattle; and Mike Evans delivering a standout performance for the 49ers against the Seahawks. Meanwhile, Marvin Harrison Jr. was traded from Arizona to Houston, and the Atlanta Falcons suffered a loss after quarterback Michael Penix Jr. exited with a rib injury.
"We all gotta be better situationally," Daniels said after the Washington game. "It’s on me to get us ready to go and we weren’t ready to go," Kubiak said after the Raiders’ loss to New England.
