AT&T urges iPhone 18 Pro Max owners to install iOS 27.0.1 amid ongoing cellular problems

Resumen

AT&T told customers that updating to iOS 27.0.1 should resolve call and data failures on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but users report the issue persists.

AT&T has sent a text alert to iPhone 18 Pro Max owners, recommending an immediate upgrade to iOS 27.0.1 to address reported call, text and data failures on its network. The carrier’s message warned that some devices may be unable to complete calls, including emergency calls to 911, and instructed users to install the update via Settings > General > Software Update.

Apple’s iOS 27.0.1 release notes cite fixes for Face ID and camera performance on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but do not mention any cellular connectivity improvements. Users who have applied the update say the “SOS” indicator remains in the status bar and the device still cannot connect to AT&T for voice or data services.

The problem appears limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which uses a Qualcomm modem, while the iPhone 18 Pro, equipped with Apple’s C2 modem, is reportedly unaffected. AT&T confirmed to a technology news outlet that it is working with Apple to resolve the issue and reiterated that affected customers should install iOS 27.0.1.

"AT&T emphasized that affected iPhone 18 Pro Max users should update to iOS 27.0.1 and that it is working with Apple to solve the problems," the carrier said in a statement.

Despite the carrier’s guidance, early user reports indicate that the update has not remedied the connectivity defects, and the issue remains a source of frustration for a subset of customers.
