Taylor Swift broke a tie with Beyoncé by winning two honors at the MTV Video Music Awards, bringing her total to 32 trophies and receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors.

Taylor Swift added two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, raising her total to 32 and surpassing Beyoncé as the most-decorated solo artist in the ceremony’s history. Swift earned the Video of the Year trophy for the song “The Fate of Ophelia” and was also presented with the inaugural Artist Director Honors, a prize meant to recognize contributions that expand the possibilities of music-video storytelling.

"Every single song that she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich," Swift said, dedicating the Video of the Year award to the late Dolly Parton.

Actor Dakota Johnson, who presented the Artist Director Honors, praised Swift as “an architect of emotional landscapes filled with the most intimate and intricate detail.” Swift noted that she has created roughly 60 music videos over two decades, directing 18 of them, and thanked fans for making the process enjoyable.

Following her acceptance speech, Swift introduced the premiere of the new video for “Patient Zero,” a track from the deluxe edition of her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl.” The video, which she directed, features Dakota Johnson and actor Colin Farrell, with cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki. Swift explained on social media that the video blends gothic, true-crime and psychological-thriller elements, using a house as a metaphor for a deteriorating relationship.

“Patient Zero” set a record for the most streams in a single day by a female artist this year and contributed to the deluxe edition achieving the highest daily streaming total for a female artist in 2026.
