WNBA playoffs feature unusually tight seed gap and potential first-round upsets

The New York Liberty, seeded eighth, have a competitive record of 26-18 despite injuries to Sabrina Ionescu and others, and they will meet the top-seed Minnesota Lynx, who have improved net rating with Olivia Collier back in the lineup but remain among the league’s lowest in points in the paint.
In the No. 5 versus No. 4 matchup, the Washington Mystics hold a defensive edge when Angel Reese is on the floor, while the Atlanta Dream’s performance drops noticeably without her. Both teams rank among the league’s best in defensive rating and rebounding metrics.
The No. 6 Indiana Fever, featuring backcourt stars Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, will challenge the No. 3 Los Angeles Aces, who are dealing with the loss of NaLyssa Smith to injury and defensive struggles on the perimeter.
The Golden State Valkyries are viewed as the team with the most favorable path to the finals, while the Minnesota Lynx face a tougher route should they advance past New York. Despite the uncertainties, the Lynx remain a strong contender for the championship.
