Holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy trial says other jurors used phones during deliberations

Résumé

The lone dissenting juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial alleges that several fellow jurors accessed cell phones and posted on social media while the panel deliberated, prompting calls for a broader investigation of juror device use.

A juror who remained undecided in the Lindsay Clancy trial has told his spokesperson that multiple other jurors used their cell phones throughout the seven-day deliberation period and even posted about the case on social media. The juror, identified as Michael P. Desronvil, says he observed fellow panel members with phones in hand and that no instruction was given to confiscate or lock the devices during deliberations.

"He said everybody had their phone on them. It wasn’t like they took their phones away and locked them away," the spokesperson, Ray Marcel, told NewsNation reporter Brian Entin.

Marcel added that some jurors allegedly posted updates to social platforms while the jury was still deliberating, and that the judge had only instructed jurors to stop using electronic devices after the alleged incidents.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has filed a motion requesting the court order Desronvil’s phone carrier to produce call and text records for each day of deliberations and to have the phone examined by a neutral third party. The motion also cites comments from another juror who reported that Desronvil was scrolling on his phone and not engaging with the panel.

Under Massachusetts law, jurors may keep their phones but are prohibited from using them during trial or deliberations, and judges may require phones to be turned in. No record indicates that Judge William Sullivan required such a surrender in this case.

Marcel, who hosts a true-crime YouTube channel, has called for the same level of scrutiny to be applied to all jurors’ devices, arguing that focusing solely on Desronvil would be inconsistent. The jury’s deadlock on a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity due to severe postpartum psychosis resulted in a mistrial.
