Anonymous New Jersey Player Wins $847 Million Powerball Jackpot After Two-Month Dry Spell

Resumen

An unnamed New Jersey resident claimed a $847 million Powerball prize, the ninth-largest in the game’s history, and can choose between a lump-sum cash option or annual payments.

An anonymous ticket holder from New Jersey has secured a $847 million Powerball jackpot, the ninth-largest ever recorded for the game. The winning numbers drawn on Wednesday were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56 with the Powerball 21. The winner may elect either the full amount in annual installments or a one-time cash payment of $363.1 million, both figures before taxes. Federal tax will take 24 percent of the winnings and an additional 8 percent will be owed to the state.

New Jersey law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous indefinitely, so the individual’s identity has not been disclosed. The prize follows the previous $1.04 billion Powerball win on August 12, when an anonymous player opted for a $450.5 million lump sum.

"Back-to-back jackpot runs resulting in prizes of this magnitude are a testament to the excitement Powerball generates," said Stephen Durrell, chair of the Powerball Product Group and executive director of the Kansas Lottery, in an interview with Fox Business. "We’re thrilled to celebrate another win and congratulate the lucky ticket holder."

The $847 million award trails the $2.04 billion jackpot won in November 2022 and the $1.817 billion prize awarded on Christmas Eve 2025.
