Democratic leader of House Oversight Committee vows investigations into Trump administration

Rep. Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California who is set to become the leading member of the House Oversight Committee, said the panel will launch extensive investigations into President Donald Trump, his family and their associates after Democrats take control of the House in January.

"Oversight Democrats are ready to take on the crooks, the con men and the Trump crime family. Lawyer up," Garcia wrote on X.

In a video released Friday, Garcia added that the committee will examine possible corruption tied to the Trump family's business dealings, cryptocurrency activities, Pentagon contracts and alleged abuses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He also said the panel will look into individuals linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Garcia indicated that the committee will have subpoena authority once the new Congress convenes, allowing it to compel testimony and obtain documents. He pledged that the oversight panel will "investigate every single one of these instances" and urged staff to begin work.

The White House described the planned investigations as politically motivated and has not responded to requests for comment.
