Winnipeg Jets rally from 4-0 deficit to defeat Canadiens in overtime

Resumen

The Jets erased a four-goal third-period hole, scoring four times in just over two minutes and winning 5-4 in overtime, ending a nine-game losing streak.

The Winnipeg Jets overcame a 4-0 deficit with less than three minutes left in the third period to beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday, snapping a nine-game skid. Kyle Connor scored twice in the comeback, and defenseman Tyrel Bauer netted his first career goal to spark the rally, while Dylan Samberg secured the win with an overtime wrist shot.

"Always," Connor said after the victory.

The Jets tallied four goals in two minutes and six seconds, tying the game with 33 seconds remaining in regulation before Samberg's overtime winner at 3:30. Bauer, a sixth-round pick in his tenth NHL game, also recorded an assist that completed his Gordie Howe hat-trick.

"What a way to end the streak we were on," Connor added.

Montreal forward Cole Caufield, who had scored the team's second goal of the night, expressed disbelief at the collapse.

"I guess [we] thought the game was over. We had a four-goal lead. There's no excuse for this. It's terrible," he said.

Head coach Martin St. Louis acknowledged his team did not outplay Winnipeg despite the lead.

"We were winning, but we weren't outplaying them. If you look at the game as a whole, forget the score, Winnipeg was the better team tonight. How the whole thing happened, that's hard to explain. I've never been part of anything like that," he said.

Jets coach Scott Arniel highlighted the win as a potential turning point for a club that had not won since mid-October and was four points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"I'm so happy that we won tonight and we got that win. This isn't February and March. To me, we're still in the hunt," Arniel said.

The comeback marked the latest four-goal rally in NHL history, providing the Jets with a much-needed boost after a recent 7-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
