The Winnipeg Jets erased a four-goal hole in the third period to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime, ending a nine-game losing streak.
Winnipeg rallied from a four-goal deficit late in the third period to defeat Montreal 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday, snapping a nine-game skid. The Jets scored four goals in just over two minutes to tie the game with 32 seconds left in regulation, and Dylan Samberg secured the win by beating goaltender Jacob Fowler at 3:30 of overtime. The comeback marked the latest four-goal turnaround in NHL history.
Tyrel Bauer and Morgan Barron sparked the rally, breaking Fowler’s shutout bid. Bauer netted his first career goal with 2:39 remaining, and Barron added another 42 seconds later. Kyle Connor then scored two one-timer goals, 27 seconds apart, to force overtime.
Montreal’s Cole Caufield recorded a brace, while Owen Beck and Josh Anderson also scored for the Canadiens, who fell 5-4 after a 4-0 lead early in the third period. Jacob Fowler stopped 42 shots for Montreal.
Stuart Skinner made 18 saves for Winnipeg, and Mark Scheifele and Dylan Demelo each contributed two assists. The Jets had recently suffered a 7-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, prompting speculation about head coach Scott Arniel’s future.
In other notes, Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki missed his sixth straight game due to a hand injury after a streak of 546 consecutive regular-season appearances. The Jets will host the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, while Montreal hosts the Utah Mammoth.
