Melania Trump to Host Russian and Ukrainian Delegates at White House

Résumé

First Lady Melania Trump will meet representatives from Russia and Ukraine at the White House on Thursday, following a cease-fire she helped broker in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky.

First Lady Melania Trump is scheduled to host officials from Russia and Ukraine at the White House on Thursday. The meeting follows a limited cease-fire in the city of Oleshky that the first lady’s office said she helped arrange last month.

The first lady’s office announced that Melania Trump will bring the two sides together and that she will deliver remarks on the cease-fire. It added that she acted as an "exclusive intermediary" with Ukrainian and Russian leaders, building on contacts she established while working on family reunifications during the war.

The cease-fire, announced on October 23, allowed for the evacuation of roughly 800 residents, including elderly people, from Oleshky between October 27 and the following Sunday. Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, had previously described the humanitarian conditions in the city as severe.

Melania Trump posted on X that the mission delivered aid and enabled the evacuation, and she expressed hope that Oleshky could become a basis for lasting peace between the two nations. The first lady’s office said the situation in Oleshky first came to her attention during a private discussion at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
