Scott Parker appointed head coach of West Ham on 2½-year deal
West Ham United have named former midfielder Scott Parker as head coach, signing him to a two-and-a-half-year contract after dismissing Nuno Espírito Santo.
West Ham United confirmed former midfielder Scott Parker as the club's new head coach, signing him to a two-and-a-half-year contract. Parker will take charge for his first match at Cardiff on Wednesday, succeeding Nuno Espírito Santo, who was dismissed following a home defeat to West Brom.
The club hopes Parker, who previously guided Burnley, Bournemouth and Fulham to promotion, can reverse recent poor form after two consecutive losses. West Ham retained Espírito Santo after last season's relegation from the Premier League but acted after the latest defeat.
Parker, who left Burnley after their relegation last April, said his "energy levels, enthusiasm, desire and passion" are driving his decision to return. He expressed pride in returning to a club where he made 129 appearances between 2007 and 2011 and highlighted the strong relationship he built with the fanbase during his playing career.
