Former Ellen Show executive producer Matthew Wright dies at 52
Matthew Wright, who produced The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2006 until its 2022 finale, died while working remotely in Los Angeles; colleagues and friends have posted tributes and a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs.
Matthew Wright, a former executive producer of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, died on Friday at age 52 while working remotely in Los Angeles, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up for his family. The campaign noted that Wright and his husband had been laid off earlier in the summer and that the family, based in New York, faced unexpected expenses for his return, funeral and memorial.
Ellen DeGeneres shared a tearful video on Instagram, recalling Wright’s humor and describing him as the "glue" of the show’s staff. She also referenced his close friendship with the late former show DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss, suggesting they are now reunited.
Former Ellen executive producer Andy Lassner posted photos taken hours before Wright’s death, expressing shock and highlighting Wright’s dedication to his mother and his friendships. He described Wright as a brilliant producer and a caring son.
Former co-host Loni Love also posted a message on Facebook, calling Wright a talented and kind individual and extending condolences to his husband, Justin, and family.
The GoFundMe page, which aimed to raise $50,000 for funeral, memorial and a trust for Wright’s niece, had already exceeded its target by Monday afternoon.
