Ex-boyfriend previously charged with assault faces investigation after Toronto woman’s death

Résumé

Gregoria Alilio died from stab wounds in Toronto; police allege her ex-boyfriend Reydel Del Rosario, who had earlier been charged with assault and threats, was involved in the incident.

Police responded to a stabbing incident near Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue West on Saturday afternoon and found 47-year-old Gregoria Alilio with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to hospital where she later died. A man also found at the scene with stab wounds was pronounced dead at the location.

Investigators believe the deceased man, identified by multiple sources as Alilio’s ex-boyfriend Reydel Del Rosario, was responsible for her death. Del Rosario, 57, had been charged on Sept. 1 with two counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon, uttering threats and theft not exceeding $5,000. The charges allege he assaulted Alilio repeatedly, including with a kitchen knife, threatened her life and stole her phone.

Court records show Del Rosario was released on his own recognizance with a condition prohibiting any contact with Alilio and an order barring him from possessing weapons, including knives, outside his home or workplace.

Alilio’s niece, Edelyn Cabrera, said her aunt had been a support for family members in the Philippines and had become a Canadian citizen in 2022. Friends in Toronto informed the family of Alilio’s death and recalled that she had previously called police after being threatened by Del Rosario.
