Three Former AAP Legislators Join BJP Ahead of Punjab Election

Three suspended Aam Aadmi Party legislators in Punjab resigned and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, NDTV reported. The move intensifies political calculations ahead of the 2027 state assembly election. Earlier this week the AAP released its first slate of 40 candidates for the Punjab assembly, emphasizing the Malwa region and re-nominating most incumbents, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Indian Express said.

After the list was announced, two AAP MLAs submitted their resignations from the assembly, NDTV reported, and the New Indian Express noted that they were expected to join the BJP. The two lawmakers also publicly criticised the party leadership and the government's failure to fulfil key promises, NDTV added.
