Warriors rally from 25-point hole to beat Lakers 112-95
Stephen Curry led Golden State with 31 points as the Warriors erased a 25-point first-quarter deficit and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 112-95 in an NBA Cup matchup.
Stephen Curry scored 31 points, added six assists and four rebounds as the Golden State Warriors overcame a 25-point early deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 112-95 on Friday night. The comeback marked the largest margin of victory in the shot-clock era for a team that trailed by 20 or more points after the first quarter.
Luka Doncic posted 37 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Lakers, but the team could not sustain its early lead. The Warriors matched the Lakers' 38-15 first-quarter run with an identical 38-15 surge in the second quarter, becoming the first shot-clock era team—including playoffs—to trail by 23 points after the opening period and still finish at least even at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, Curry passed Dominique Wilkins for 18th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Fellow Warriors contributors included Brandin Podziemski with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds, De'Anthony Melton with 16 off the bench, and Georges Niang with 11.
"We stayed focused and kept executing on both ends of the floor," a Warriors spokesperson said after the game.
The Lakers capitalized on 17 Golden State turnovers for 25 points, including 10 in the opening period, but could not overcome the deficit. The Lakers will host the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, while the Warriors host the Los Angeles Clippers later that night.
