Tharoor says Rahul Gandhi's offer to debate SIR allegations remains pending Parliament session

Résumé

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor affirmed that Rahul Gandhi's invitation to discuss the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls will stand if Parliament reconvenes, and criticised the Election Commission's handling of the process.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor told ANI that, because Parliament has not yet been prorogued, the Lok Sabha should reconvene and Rahul Gandhi's offer to debate the allegations surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls remains valid.

Tharoor criticised the Election Commission's conduct of the SIR, alleging procedural irregularities and noting that Supreme Court hearings had supported the Opposition's concerns. He said the Commission's decision to link the SIR declaration to a new Form 6 was an unauthorised change and that two other Election Commissioners had also objected.

The MP added that the Opposition seeks to reverse the SIR exercise and restore the 113 million voters removed from the electoral rolls, arguing that the Supreme Court's observations vindicated those demands.
