US tech earnings weigh on Asian semiconductor stocks
Weak guidance from Intel and a post-earnings decline at Amazon dampened sentiment, pushing a Bloomberg index of Asian chipmakers down nearly 5% on Friday.
Asian semiconductor shares fell after disappointing earnings from major U.S. technology firms. Intel Corp. issued a cautious outlook that raised doubts about future chip demand, while Amazon.com Inc. saw its stock slide following its quarterly results, further souring sentiment toward the artificial-intelligence trade.
The broader technology sector continued a volatile stretch, with investors showing reduced tolerance for earnings shortfalls after a recent AI-driven rally. A Bloomberg gauge tracking Asian chipmakers dropped as much as 4.8% on Friday. South Korea's SK Hynix Inc. and Japan's Advantest Corp. each fell more than 9% before trimming losses, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. slipped over 2%.
