Apple expected to launch M7-based MacBook Pro models and second-gen touchscreen version next year

Résumé

Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to release a new base MacBook Pro with its upcoming M7 chip and a second-generation touchscreen model powered by M7 Pro and M7 Max chips in the coming year.

Apple is slated to expand its MacBook Pro lineup next year with new models that incorporate the forthcoming M7 processor family, according to a Bloomberg report cited by Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter. The base MacBook Pro is expected to adopt the slimmer design introduced with the latest high-end models, featuring thinner bezels and reduced weight.

"Apple will introduce a new version of the base MacBook Pro powered by the M7 chip next year," Gurman wrote.

In addition, a second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro is projected to launch, equipped with M7 Pro and M7 Max chips. Gurman previously noted that Apple intends to skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, moving directly to the M7 family, which he said is focused on major advancements in on-device AI processing.

"The M7 line is designed primarily around major advancements to on-device AI processing," Gurman added.

The report suggests that Apple may eventually consolidate its MacBook Pro offerings, reducing the distinction between touchscreen and non-touchscreen high-end models. Gurman speculated that maintaining two separate high-end lines could strain engineering, marketing, and manufacturing resources, and that price differentials are narrowing.

"I’d be surprised if Apple continued developing non-touch versions of its high-end laptop models," he wrote.

The anticipated changes could reshape the MacBook Pro portfolio, aligning it more closely with the company’s broader strategy for AI-enhanced hardware.
