Apple launches MacBook Pro with OLED display and touchscreen
Apple unveiled a redesigned MacBook Pro featuring an OLED screen and touchscreen capability, with Samsung Display reported as the panel supplier.
Apple announced a redesigned MacBook Pro on Oct. 29, adding an OLED display and touchscreen input for the first time on a Mac laptop. The OLED panels are reported to be sourced from Samsung Display, marking the company's initial use of Samsung-made OLED screens in a MacBook Pro. The new model is part of a broader hardware update that also includes an OLED iPad mini and a MacBook Pro variant equipped with Apple's PROLED XDR display, as discussed on a recent tech podcast.
"The touchscreen decision is notable because Apple long resisted adding touch to the Mac, positioning the iPad as its touch-first device," a report noted, highlighting the shift toward competing with premium Windows laptops that have offered touch and OLED for years.
Industry observers see the launch as a test of OLED adoption in notebooks, with Samsung Display’s involvement giving the Korean maker a foothold in the segment, while rival LG Display is said to be targeting future iMac models. Apple has not released details on panel suppliers or pricing for the new MacBook Pro.
