US, Singapore, Taiwan probe Chinese exec over Nvidia AI chip intel
U. S. , Singapore and Taiwanese authorities said they are investigating Chinese citizen Alice Huang, a former senior executive at Megaspeed International, for allegedly providing Beijing with information on Nvidia's AI chip data centers. U. S. investigators had earlier examined Huang for possible involvement in moving restricted Nvidia AI chips to China and gathering commercial intelligence for the Chinese government. U. S. intelligence agencies also alleged that a Chinese intelligence asset linked to a Singapore data-center firm cultivated a relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, raising concerns about access to chip information.
Nvidia later denied a New York Times report that U. S. intelligence had surveilled a person close to its CEO, stating its customers do not receive trade secrets or national-security data. The company's chief executive Jensen Huang said its interactions with Megaspeed were routine and that the firm did not illegally ship AI GPUs to China. Nvidia also reported that sales of its H200 chip to China fell below the U. S. -approved limit and projected no data-center revenue from China, while U. S. officials warned of a black-market trade in its chips.
