Everton name line-up for Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle

Résumé

Everton manager David Moyes announced his starting eleven for the Carabao Cup fourth-round match with Newcastle United, with several injury concerns influencing selections.

Everton will host Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Tuesday evening, with a kickoff scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Manager David Moyes confirmed his squad, opting for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and a back four of Jake O’Brien, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and Vitalii Mykolenko, pending final fitness checks.

In midfield, Moyes selected Harrison Armstrong, Hayden Hackney and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Tyrique George will occupy the right-wing position. The attacking line features Thierno Barry, with the left side left open for possible inclusion of Jack Greedish if he recovers from a recent illness.

The selections were discussed by Everton contributors Chris Beesley and Connor O’Neill. Beesley noted that Mykolenko’s recent injury could force a change at left-back and suggested James Garner as a reliable alternative. He also recommended giving Hackney a chance in central midfield and replacing Brennan Johnson with Tyler Dibling on the right wing, citing Dibling’s performance in the previous round.

"If Mykolenko is ruled out against Newcastle United, I certainly don’t want to see Jarrad Branthwaite reprise the uncomfortable viewing that was his foray in the position against the Tigers," wrote Beesley.

"David Moyes must pick the strongest possible team available to him, now is not the time for changes," O’Neill added, emphasizing the importance of fielding the most competitive XI.

Everton’s next fixture is a Premier League match at St James’ Park on Monday, making the cup tie a priority for the club’s supporters seeking an early season trophy.
