Patriots rally past Dolphins 24-19 as Drake Maye and Rhamondle Stevenson lead comeback
New England defeated Miami 24-19, improving to 5-3, with quarterback Drake Maye throwing three touchdowns in the second half and running back Rhamondle Stevenson contributing key plays.
The New England Patriots earned their second win of the week on Sunday, edging the Miami Dolphins 24-19 to move to a 5-3 record. After a sluggish first half, quarterback Drake Maye turned the tide in the second half, completing 9 of 10 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, including a 43-yard strike to tight end Kyle Williams and a rushing score on a speed option play.
Running back Rhamondle Stevenson carried the ball 19 times for a game-high 82 yards and was instrumental in the closing minutes, recovering an onside kick and converting a first down on three consecutive touches. Defensive tackle Cory Durden anchored the defensive line, recording 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and two run stops.
The Patriots’ zone coverage struggled early, allowing Miami quarterback Malik Willis to complete 8 of 10 passes for 93 yards in the first half. The team shifted to more man coverage in the second half, which helped limit further big plays.
Miami kicker Andy Borregales missed a 34-yard field goal and a 40-yard attempt, while New England’s kickoff coverage allowed two returns of 36 and 43 yards. Special teams saw punter Mitch Wishnowsky deliver two punts inside the 20-yard line and returner Marcus Jones record a 26-yard punt return.
Other contributors included wide receivers Kyle Williams and DeMario Douglas, who each scored a touchdown, and Efton Chism, who led the Patriots with five receptions. Defensive standouts beyond Durden were Gabe Jacas with 1.5 sacks and several teammates recording half-sack totals. The Patriots’ run defense limited Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon to 69 yards on 19 carries.
