Allahabad High Court to investigate lawyers' courtroom disruption and consider disciplinary action
The Allahabad High Court ordered a review of CCTV footage to identify advocates who broke court decorum by shouting slogans, and said the matter will be referred for disciplinary and contempt proceedings.
Lawyers staged a protest inside courtroom 49 of the Allahabad High Court, disrupting a bail hearing presided over by Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal. The demonstration was triggered by allegations that a fellow lawyer had been mistreated by Justice Ajay Bhanot. During the protest, the advocates allegedly damaged furniture and shouted slogans, prompting the bench to halt the proceedings.
Justice Deshwal described the incident as an interference with court business, stating that litigants come to the High Court for redress and that advocates cannot use intimidation tactics or disturb other proceedings. The bench characterized the behavior as contemptuous.
The court directed the Registrar (Protocol) to review CCTV footage of the corridor outside the courtroom, identify the participants, and forward their names to the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council for possible disciplinary action, as well as to initiate contempt proceedings. The case is scheduled for further hearing on November 19.
