Judge Bars Interim U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli from Two Cases Amid Ballot Lawsuit
On 28 October, the interim U. S. attorney for the Southern District of California, Bill Essayli, was reported to be under court challenge over his lawsuit to block thousands of California ballots and a series of aggressive prosecutions. The challenge follows a ruling on 26 October by Senior U. S.
District Judge J. Michael Seabright, who found Essayli was serving unlawfully as Los Angeles’s top federal prosecutor and ordered his disqualification from overseeing two criminal cases, though the order was delayed pending a possible stay, according to the Los Angeles Times. ABC7 Los Angeles also noted the judge’s finding that Essayli was not lawfully serving as the city’s U. S. attorney.
