Arsenal midfielder Max Dowman suspended for three games after red-card appeal denied
Arsenal's 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman will miss the next three matches following the rejection of the club's appeal against his red card in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood.
Arsenal confirmed that 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman has been handed a three-match suspension after the club's appeal against his dismissal in the Carabao Cup tie against Fleetwood was rejected. Dowman received a straight red card in the 85th minute for violent conduct after making contact with Fleetwood defender Harrison Neal during a heavy challenge. The match ended 1-1, with Fleetwood advancing 5-3 on penalties.
The appeal was lodged on Wednesday but was turned down by the governing body. This is Dowman's second red card in the month, having also been sent off while playing for England's Under-19 side.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the game, "When we prepared the context of the match, we were very clear on the things to respect, the things that emotionally we have to dominate. It was very clear." The club noted that the team is already short of options on the wing, with Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke unavailable through injury.
