Massive Protests Demand Election Chief's Resignation in New Delhi
Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of manipulating voter lists to benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The protest was organized by the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which secured police permission with strict conditions and aimed to mobilize up to one million participants. The Bharatiya Janata Party responded with plans for a smaller counter-rally of about 5,000 people, including Sikh community leaders.
Authorities heightened security across Delhi ahead of the protests amid concerns over the removal of 130 million names from voter lists. The opposition criticized the voter-list revision as biased and called for electoral reforms during the rally.
