Opposition rally in Delhi scheduled amid voter-list controversy
Congress leaders said the opposition alliance is scheduled to hold a rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on November 1, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and for electoral reforms following a voter-list cleanup that deleted roughly 130 million entries. The Bharatiya Janata Party announced it will organise a separate march on the same day, aiming for about 5,000 participants, including Sikh community leaders, as a response to the opposition gathering. Earlier reports indicated that Congress aims to attract up to one million attendees and expects the event to boost local businesses, while Delhi police have issued a no-objection certificate that imposes strict timing, crowd-control and surveillance conditions.
