Driver charged with nine offences after fatal Tampines crash

Resumen

A 30-year-old driver was charged with nine offences, including dangerous driving causing death, after fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a motorcyclist and his pregnant wife in Singapore.

A 30-year-old driver was charged on Oct. 31 with nine offences after a crash on Tampines Avenue 12 that killed a motorcyclist and his pregnant wife, both 24. The collision occurred at about 10:35 p.m. on Oct. 29 when a blue Audi breached a road divider and struck a motorcycle and another car. Both victims died in hospital and were buried together at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery on Oct. 30.

The driver, Muhammad Zulfiqar Abdul Aziz, appeared in court via video link. He was denied bail after the prosecution argued he was a flight risk for leaving the scene. The court agreed, and his next hearing is set for Nov. 27.

"He ran away from the scene," the prosecution said.

Police arrested Zulfiqar and a 29-year-old woman who was with him on Oct. 30; the woman has not been charged while investigations continue. The other driver involved, a 25-year-old, was taken to hospital but survived.

Under Singapore law, dangerous driving causing death carries a maximum sentence of eight years’ imprisonment, while using a deregistered vehicle can result in up to two years’ jail and a $20,000 fine. The number of deregistered-vehicle cases has risen sharply, with 245 reported in 2025 and 122 investigations in the first five months of 2026. Police warned that operating deregistered or disqualified vehicles is reckless and will be met with firm enforcement.
