DoorDash in Advanced Talks to Acquire Instacart in $17 Billion Deal

DoorDash is in advanced discussions to acquire Instacart, a transaction that could value the grocery-delivery platform at roughly $17 billion, according to sources familiar with the talks. The Wall Street Journal reported that an agreement might be reached as early as this week, though no deal is guaranteed.

Following the report, Instacart shares rose about 8 percent on Monday, while DoorDash stock fell roughly 6 percent. Prior to the news, Instacart was valued at about $13 billion, compared with DoorDash’s market capitalization of around $73 billion.

If completed, the acquisition would give DoorDash a larger foothold in the competitive grocery-delivery sector, complementing its earlier purchases of Deliveroo and Finnish firm Wolt. The deal would follow intensified competition from retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, which have expanded their own grocery-delivery services.

Both companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
