Montreal police chief fires seven officers over racism and abuse claims
Montreal police chief dismissed seven officers over accusations of racism, abuse of power and other misconduct, drawing reactions from community groups and the police union. The Fraternité des policiers et policières de Montréal said the firings breach labour law and will be legally challenged.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal confirmed the dismissals and said criminal investigations remain open, and it reassigned an officer accused of destroying domestic-violence video evidence to administrative duties pending the probe. Earlier, Quebec’s domestic security minister ordered two independent investigations into allegations that a Montreal officer urinated on homeless people while on duty.
