Supreme Court postpones hearing on petitions against Election Commission and CEC Kumar
The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on petitions against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on 27 October, as Karnataka released its final electoral roll after a Special Intensive Revision that removed more than 9. 9 million names. Earlier, the Court had scheduled a hearing for 17 November on petitions alleging that the Election Commission made decisions without the consent of all commissioners.
The Election Commission had told the Court that its Special Intensive Revision orders were adopted unanimously, that the Chief Election Commissioner can be removed only on the same grounds and procedure as a Supreme Court judge, and had defended filing over 1. 6 million West Bengal voter-inclusion appeals. It also submitted an affidavit asserting that its decision-making processes are unanimous and that petitions based on newspaper reports should be dismissed.
