Four Android Tablets Offer Alternatives to the New OLED iPad Mini

Resumen

Several Android tablets with OLED screens, high-end processors and gaming-oriented cooling systems are available in the United States at prices comparable to or lower than the upcoming OLED iPad Mini.

Apple’s upcoming OLED iPad Mini is set to launch at $699, but a range of Android tablets provide comparable performance at similar or lower price points. RedMagic’s Astra 2 features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 185 Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and a 12-part cooling system that includes a 20,000 RPM fan and vapor-liquid cooling. The base model is priced at $749, while a higher-spec version with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage costs $849.

Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5, another gaming-focused tablet, also uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, offers 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and dual USB-C ports, but with an LCD panel rather than OLED. It has a 8.8-inch screen with a 3040×1904 resolution and a 9,000 mAh battery that supports 68-watt charging. Although its regular MSRP is $900, it is currently listed for $700, matching the iPad Mini’s price.

Amazon’s Alexa Tablet line includes an 8.7-inch model with an 800p display, a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor and up to 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The tablet runs Google services out of the box and is available for $230 without lock-screen ads, or up to $320 with an ad-free option, well below the iPad Mini’s price.

TCL offers the Tab 8 NXTPAPER 5G, a tablet with a matte nano-etched glass LCD that costs around $200. Activation requires a cellular service plan, which can add $10–$50 per month depending on the carrier.

All of these devices are sold in the United States and fall within the 8-inch class, providing options for consumers who prioritize OLED displays, gaming performance or lower cost over Apple’s ecosystem.
