Apple launches 8th-gen iPad mini with OLED display and A20 Pro chip

Resumen

Apple unveiled the new iPad mini, now priced from $699, featuring a larger OLED screen, a 2-nm A20 Pro processor and IP67 water-dust resistance.

Apple announced the eighth-generation iPad mini, priced at $699 for the base 128 GB Wi-Fi model. The tablet retains its compact footprint but gains a larger 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, up from 8.3 inches, thanks to a 24 percent reduction in bezel thickness. Brightness peaks at 1,200 nits, and a nano-textured matte option is available on higher-capacity models.

The device is 5.4 mm thin and carries an IP67 rating for water and dust protection, an improvement over the previous generation. Under the hood, Apple installed its 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, previously seen in the iPhone 18 Pro, offering higher graphics performance and a 50 percent increase in memory bandwidth. The 512 GB configuration includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, while the 128 GB and 256 GB versions use a single 16-core NPU and a five-core CPU.

Both front and rear cameras remain 12 MP, though the front camera has been repositioned to the long edge of the tablet. Storage options start at 128 GB, with 256 GB and 512 GB models costing $100 and $300 more, respectively. A nano-texture display adds another $100 but is limited to the larger storage variants. Cellular connectivity is offered at $849 for the 128 GB model.

Pre-orders begin at 10:10 a.m. PT on October 28, with shipments expected to start on November 6.
