Apple launches iPad mini with OLED screen and A20 Pro processor
Apple's new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch OLED display, upgraded A20 Pro chip, and improved speakers, with pricing starting at $699.
Apple introduced an updated iPad mini that adds an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display and the latest A20 Pro processor. The device is offered in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options; the lower-capacity models use a binned chip with five CPU cores, while the 512GB version retains six cores and full NPU performance. All variants share the same 2,316 × 1,512 pixel resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate and optional nano-texture glass for reduced glare.
The new iPad mini measures 5.4 mm thick and weighs 255 grams, slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. It includes dual speakers positioned under the display in an “Acoustic Display” configuration, which Apple says provides stronger bass and higher volume, along with hidden tweeters for clearer highs. Connectivity is upgraded to Wi-Fi 7, and the cellular model adds sub-6 GHz 5G via eSIM and Apple’s C2 modem. The tablet also gains IP67 water and dust resistance.
Power is supplied by an 18.9 Wh battery that charges via USB-C, with Apple claiming a 50 % charge in 30 minutes when using a 35 W or higher adapter. The device supports both the Apple Pencil Pro and the regular USB-C Pencil, and features a landscape-oriented 12 MP Center Stage camera.
Pricing starts at $699 (or €749/£699) for the 128 GB Wi-Fi model, $799 (or €879/£799) for the 256 GB version, and $999 (or €1,129/£999) for the 512 GB model. Pre-orders begin on October 28, with deliveries slated to start on November 6.
