Public Health Sudbury launches free drop-in flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccination clinics

Résumé

Public Health Sudbury and Districts is offering free, walk-in vaccinations for flu, COVID-19 and RSV at community clinics across the region throughout the fall and winter.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts is urging residents to receive vaccinations against influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as the respiratory-illness season approaches. The agency is providing free COVID-19 and flu shots to anyone six months of age and older, and RSV vaccines to eligible infants, high-risk children and older adults. In addition to appointments at health-care providers and participating pharmacies, the health unit is piloting drop-in community clinics to improve access.

The schedule includes locations such as Skead Community Centre on Nov. 7, Capreol Millennium Centre on Nov. 12, Onaping Library on Nov. 14, Dowling Lions Club on Nov. 19, Coniston Library on Nov. 21, Wahnapitae Community Centre on Nov. 23, Falconbridge Community Centre on Nov. 25, and Naughton Community Centre on Dec. 1. No appointments are required; residents can simply walk in during the listed hours.

"You have plans this fall. Don’t let respiratory illness get in the way," said Dr. Mustafa Hirji, Medical Officer of Health, in a release. "Getting vaccinated will help protect your health and the health of those close to you, keeping your plans on track."

The health unit highlighted that respiratory viruses spread more widely in colder months and can lead to serious outcomes, especially for older adults, infants, pregnant individuals and people with certain medical conditions. It also reminded the public to stay home when ill, wear masks for ten days after symptom onset, improve indoor ventilation, practice regular handwashing and follow any masking requirements in health-care settings.

For more information or to book appointments, residents can call Public Health at 705-522-9200 or toll-free 1-866-522-9200.
